GRST 105 - Introduction to Greek and Roman Civilization

This course introduces students to the history, politics, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome from the Bronze Age to Late Antiquity. Students in this course acquire broad familiarity with the geography of the ancient Mediterranean, the chronology of Greek and Roman history, and various aspects of Greek and Roman political, social, and cultural life. Topics include ancient art and material culture, literature, myth and religion, elite leisure practices, life in the Roman provinces, the status of women, enslaved, and other marginalized people in the ancient world, and the construction of identity within Greek and Roman societies. This course is intended for students who have no prior experience studying the ancient Greek or Roman worlds. Curtis Dozier.
